TABURA DEMONSTRATION MIXED FARM

Tabura Demonstration Mixed Farm a subsidiary of Tabura General (TAG) Consulting located in Dyango, Nakawuka, Kajjansi Town Council, Wakiso District.

The Demonstration Farm provides on-farm and outreach learning and development support to farmers, communities. It is geared towards increasing household income.  The Demonstration Farm intends to establish a fully-fledged skilling-centre, that will train farmers and students from the surrounding areas.

The intervention is aimed at enhancing livelihood security through promoting modern agricultural practices, knowledge transfers and integrated community development for rural poverty alleviation.  This is line with Government policy of improving household incomes by creating income generating activities. Sustainable agriculture is seen as a means of improving people’s livelihoods as it could provide significant benefits for the economy, society and the environment.

As part of TAG Consulting services, the demonstration farm is a spring board for teaching and/or demonstrating various agricultural techniques and technologies, showcasing new or improved crops. It also serves as a venue for research and testing new methods alongside traditional ones.

Most important, the demonstration farm and training center offers employment to many people especially the youth from the neighboring areas and train the farmers on modern farming methods. 

Tabura Demonstration Mixed Farm is aimed at promoting the development of organic agriculture by transforming conventional agricultural production into an organic farming system that prohibits the use of synthetic inputs, such as drugs, fertilizers, and pesticides.

Organic agriculture is part of Government’s sustainable development concept and is a priority area in the government’s agro-food policy. Organic exports are an important part of Uganda’s economy. Organic farming is an excellent business opportunity for farmers and investors involved in agriculture and food production.  In this regard, the demonstration and educational center will operate as an experimental organic farm, where new approaches and technologies for environmentally sound cultivation based on efficient use of natural resources will be introduced. It will serve as a well-equipped and staffed advisory center where various consultations, seminars and practical trainings will be organized.

The center will serve as a platform for practical learning and knowledge, as well as for cooperation of organic farmers across the country which will result in increase in agricultural productivity and product varieties. In terms of environmental benefits, this demonstration will greatly contribute to mitigation of land degradation which is mainly caused by wrong or unsustainable agricultural/farming practices.

Organic Agriculture is a production system that sustains the health of soils, ecosystems, and people. It relies on ecological processes, biodiversity and cycles adapted to local conditions, rather than the use of inputs with adverse effects. The Principles of Health, Ecology, Fairness, and care are the roots from which organic agriculture grows and develops. They express the contribution that organic agriculture can make to the world, and a vision to improve all agriculture in a global context.
